The Dean of General Studies reports directly to the Head of School, and is a member of the Educational Leadership Team of The Oasis High School.

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Supervise the daily operations of the General Studies program.
  • Work collaboratively with the Educational Leadership team.
  • Envision and implement, based on research and best practice, an innovative and rigorous General Studies academic and co-curricular program.
  • Oversee all curricula and instruction relevant to General Studies.
  • Participate in the recruitment, hiring, training, assignment, supervision and evaluation of faculty in all General Studies disciplines.
  • Ensure that the academic program meets the needs of a diverse community of learners.
  • Actively partner with the Director of Admissions in the recruitment and retention of students.
  • Actively partner with the Director of Marketing and Communications in marketing the school and its programs, to prospective students and to the community at large.
  • Actively partner with the Director of College Guidance to develop individualized preparation for college and university.
  • In consultation and collaboration with the Dean of Jewish Studies and the Head of School, develop and oversee all aspects of student discipline.
  • In consultation and collaboration with the Dean of Jewish Studies, ensure that General Studies are mindfully interconnected with Jewish Studies and with the overall core values, mission and vision of the school.
  • Foster an atmosphere of creativity, collaboration and innovations among students and faculty.
  • Ensure that technology is integrated into the learning experience.
  • Actively partner with the Dean of Jewish Studies in the development and implementation of a broad array of co-curricular programs.
  • In consultation and collaboration with the Dean of Jewish Studies and the Head of school, create and monitor a program of professional development.
  • In consultation and collaboration with the Dean of Jewish Studies and the Head of School, create and manage a program of Professional Development (PD)
  • Assume an active role in budgeting and financial planning.
  • Maintain on-going communications with faculty, students and parents.
  • Participate in the development of the academic calendar, in consultation with the Educational Leadership and Administrative Leadership teams.
  • Develop and teach an inaugural Grade 9 class English/Humanities curriculum, and subsequent grades in following years.
  • Serve as a one-on-one advisor.
  • In collaboration with other General Studies faculty, work to develop the broadest integration of General Studies, Jewish Studies and co-curricular programs.
  • To be a visible and positive presence in The Oasis School; to support and promote the overall mission and mandate of the school, within and outside the school.
